A chain needs to be oiled; a belt does not. The District EQ 1 combines a Gates Carbon Drive with an 11-speed Shimano Alfine hub gear, creating a drivetrain that neither leaks oil nor rusts and won’t ruin your pant legs. You can shift gears even while stationary, which makes all the difference at traffic lights. Lights, fenders, and a rack are factory-installed, and the hub dynamo eliminates the need for batteries. The Premium Alloy frame stays clean and tidy thanks to internal cable routing, and the Schwalbe G-One tires in 700x40C roll quietly. It’s one of the lowest-maintenance bikes in the lineup. Over the course of a year, that saves a lot of maintenance work.
